Do I need to download the whole blockchain in order to create a shop that accepts bitcoin (that doesn’t rely on a central authority, such as coinpayments)?

Let’s say I want to generate addresses for a wallet and view transaction info (like number of confirmations, amount sent, etc). Do I need to download all 250gb+ of the bitcoin blockchain in order to do this, without relying on one central authority that can revoke my access at any moment?
I need to accept bitcoin for a small hobby site I have. I currently use coinpayments, but I have no interest in verifying my id and I feel that I will probably be locked out of my coinpayments account the moment I make my first sale. Paying for 300gb of storage for a vps just to host the blockchain seems a bit expensive. I’m not too worried about the complexity of integrating actual bitcoin support vs. using APIs though since if I mess up on security, worst case scenario I’d lose like $10 (hence why I don’t really want to pay $40/month to host the blockchain).
If I can’t use bitcoin natively without downloading the entire blockchain, then I’d be fine using some API that can accomplish a similar task as long as they do not require id verification, phone number verification, etc. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I think you guys might apreciate the subtext in this response I got from a local coffee shop that accepts Bitcoin*

I emailed them asking if they accepted bitcoin and how the transaction worked from a customer perspective. This was their response.
Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to email us.
We do accept Bitcoin* and process payments via a wallet that we here at Moondrop Coffee maintain (via Coinbase). As for the transaction, the cashier would generate a receive request for the amount due and the customer would be presented with a QR code (Moondrop receive address) to scan. Once the transaction is broadcasted on the network (even if unconfirmed), we would qualify that as a completed sale. Of course, we suggest for customers to send funds using a higher fee for the sake of confirmation times, but we leave that up to the customer.
*We are working to integrate Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as a method of payment in 2018
Let us know if you have any more questions and/or concerns. We look forward to seeing you soon.
EDIT: Link to their website The shop is located in West-Seattle

Do we have a publicly editable Wiki for city-wise brick-and-mortar shops that accept Bitcoin?

We need to start using Bitcoin. I don't think we have a Wikipedia-styled (or like Wikitravel) wiki that enlists all shops that accept Bitcoin. The list will be ever-expanding and the go-to place for Bitcoin enthusiasts who want to put the currency into actual real-life use.

Do you want this Android App? A Map App that displays all the currently known physical shops that accept bitcoin.

EDIT
APP NOW AVAILABLE HERE : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ragmondo
S/shot here: http://imgur.com/yTasHpy
All I have done so far is get the maps API working using a text file from the data here : https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=Real_world_shops&action=edit
If there is enough demand then I'll make it more data driven, perhaps even include current bitcoin vendors etc etc. Let me know and I'll do the necessary to get it up onto the google play store. I'm not averse to making it open source as well (it really wasn't that difficult to do).
Edit: Next question. Where can I source these places along with their lat/long locations? I am looking for quality data, not just rough addresses as the last thing I have time for is data cleansing !! I am going to work on this over the next few days and get a beta version up on the appstore shortly although if anybody is brave / trusting enough I will be happy to upload an .apk for testing purposes.
Edit 2: I don't know of a better one, so I've put up a "suggestion box" with voting here: http://www.google.com/moderato#15/e=201cd5&t=201cd5.40 . Yes it's a google run thing but I figured as the majority of people voting will have an android phone and therefore a google account, that may not make it such a bad thing. I will get started coding today !!
Edit 3: KML (for google earth etc) is now available here : http://bcfxer.appspot.com/kml . Json coming shortly...
Edit 4: Add to the database here : http://bcfxer.appspot.com/submissions/newbusiness
