Everyday info sec, hardcore info sec, and DNMs

Edit: Currently writing a new version of this, dont know when it will be done.
Edit: Since first post I have updated a few sections with additional information.
I recommend reading it all even if it is very long, I might have placed some relevant info in different sections while thinking about what else needed to be added, plenty of steps remains mostly the same except when I comment directly on it. It is not necessary to do 100% security all the time, unless you absolutely need it, combining some high and some lower security ideas for a balance of security and convenience is useful.
I will base this mostly on Windows, Linux users probably know this, and I have no idea how apple machines work (tho many things in here are still relevant for other operating systems, as they are just general tips)
Disclaimer: There are certainly other steps that can make you more anonymous or safer, however I think for most people this will surfice. Any software I recommend should be independently verified for security, and examples of software are not to be taken as endorsements. I simply use examples and give recommendations when I believe it necessary, or helpful.
I will not really differentiate between anonymity and security, they are often the same thing. As such the word security can mean either more anonymous, less vulnerable, or both.
--------
Everyday Simple Info Sec:
-There could be a hidden administrator user on your PC, make sure to change its password
(Snapchat msgs, reddit dms, discord msgs, are just a few examples of msgs that are never encrypted)
-Any info even send in encrypted msgs (and obviously non encrypted) should still be kept with possible deniability, don't say "I'm gonna do MDMA", say "I'm going out with molly."
-DO NOT STORE ANY PASSWORDS ON GOOGLE, IF GOOGLE LOGIN IS AUTHENTICATED IT WILL AUTFILL ALL PASSWORDS IT HAS SAVED (same with other similar services) (This means if you are logged in to chrome and someone has access to your machine, they can auto fill passwords without entering a single password)
-use a rememberable passphrase, especially for your master key ring aka password manager A long sentence that is memorable makes an okay password (decent example,: "I met my wife at Little Ceasers for the first time on 07/09/20" better even if it's just something you know, if its impersonal, and if you can add special characters or numbers that you won't forget) (A better example for a passphrase is: "There is 0nly 0ne letter that d0esn’t appear in any U.S. state nameQ")
-Purge your internet activity frequently, there's a reason why I only have one post, and a few comments appearing in my account, but thousands of kama. Exposing information needlessly is not good.
-Never post private information publicly, and if you do, do it vaguely as possible. (Example: Not "I'm 15", say "I'm a teenager") Do not post any vital information ever, no birthdays, mother's maiden name, age, or anything you have ever seen in a security question. Never post your current activities while they are ongoing. You going on a vacation? Don't announce it to the world, taking picture there? Post them when you are home.
-Rethink how you do security questions. Many answers to security questions can be found in your internet history. One could use the first word of the security question as an answer, or a different sceme that will mean you always remember it. (Security question need to go, the amount of personal info an average person puts on the internet makes it easy to attack anything using security question)
-------_
High level crimimal information security:
The motto here is, "All the Security, All the Time" As one fuck up can end with you leaving a lick of traceability, and you could be fucked.
Pre Note: All of your software should always be up to date. Also even perfect info sec does not guarantee you are completely safe, a new zero day (exploit) can still fuck you, but good info security makes you significantly safer, by eliminating as many attacks as possible.
-Get a new device (or make a already owned device seem like you never owned it, do this only if you know how to, there's a lot of stuff that goes into that, like changing your mac adress etc) buy with cash, and your face covered, preferably far away from where you live. (Do I need to specify to not bring your phone or anything else that tracks your location to anywhere you want to go anonymously?) (Be aware that even hardware can have vulnerabilities, many cpus have known vulnerabilities, I can't list them all, do some research before buying)
-If you know how to use Tails (A linux distro designed for Info sec) use that, preferably on a USB. (Or learn how to use tails, its better, but complicated) Otherwise a clean copy of windows (make sure its not in any way associated with you) can do the job too, tho not as well. (Using a VM might give extra security, since VMs usually erase all data and RAM they were using on shutdown)
-Get a non tracking VPN, Enable the kill switch (a setting that disables all traffic that doesn't go through the VPN) (change your firewall settings to only allow the traffic from the VPN, windows guide (Change settings so only traffic from the tor application is send) Edit: (Due to complaints: do not use vpn over tor, use tor over vpn. tor over vpn has no notable downside, if the VPN logs it makes no difference, your ISP will always log anyways, and vpns remove other attack vectors and also provide backup security should tor fail. Again even if the VPN tracks you only change the people doing the tracking, but now you are further removed making it more anonymous and also with less vulnerabilities)
-rember privacy settings, cookie cleaner, and antivirus, password (There could be a hidden administrator user on your PC, make sure to change its password)
-Always use the device on a non admin account
-Ideally use this device only on networks that are not connected with you. Such as public networks (try to never use the same public networks twice, move around) (a home network should be fine now, as it should never be exposed, but more security is always better) (Its just a conveniences vs security trade)
-Never use accounts that have been exposed to lower security on higher security machines
-your browser is now TOR (or your preferred security focused browser, if you dont plan on using onion ) Make sure you get the standalone version of tor not the addon build (the standalone is safer, because there are less settings and options to tweak)
-Change your tor settings, to safest mode, enable a bridge (to my knowledge there's no difference in security between the build in bridges in tor), enable automatic updates, set duckduckgo onion as your primary browser. Set dark.fail onion page as your home page. (Or your preferred privacy search engine and onion directory)

How to use dark net markets (DNMs)
If you finished your High Security setup, we can dive right in. Otherwise go do that. This is where all that is essential.
Quick info on Tor, and onion sites. There is no search engine. It's all based of directories and addresses you are given by others. Tor will likely not be very quick, it has to pass through multiple networks to get to the destination. DNMs sometimes exit scam, an exit scam is when a market shuts down completely and takes all the money, this is a risk when using DNMs, it's not too common but happens maybe 0-4 times a year. The admins of thoese servers need to get out at some point, before they get jailed, so they exit the game, and scam everyone out of their money.
-A very useful onion directory is dark.fail it has a lot of links, for all kinds of stuff. News, email, DNMs, Psychonautwiki (harm reduction website), forums etc. (Other directories also exist)
-Pick a market, preferably one that handles secure connection server side instead of requiring you to establish the secure connection. Then create an account. Your account once created should include an entry box in your profile for a pgp key, post your PUBLIC key in there. (Verify the link is not a scam, most markets should provide a pgp signature)
-Next is currency setup. All major cryptocurrency exchangers can be used, I can recommend coin base but there could be better ones out there. Unless you find a small non U.S., exchange, they will always ask for your identity. So unless you can find a trustworthy exchange that doesn't ID, you will need to give it to them. (Side note, all major crypto exchangers report to the IRS, if the IRS asks you if you bought cryptocurrency and you bought while having IDed yourself SAY YES, DO NOT COMMIT TAX FRAUD WHEN THEY KNOW YOU DID)
-Transfer (monero you can send directly, btc you should scramble) to your wallet. There are two options a cold wallet (physical) or a software wallet. Software wallets usually dont cost anything so I recommend them, even if often less safe. Electrum is easy to use, and pretty safe. You can also do your own research and find a wallet that fits your needs.
-now you are ready to buy, only buy using escrow (it means the money is held by the market as a middle man until the product is delivered, they will also handle any issues like wrong quantity, cuts, etc), judge the reviews for a product, and if available look at the history of the vendor, until you find a product from a vendor you trust. (I recommend to buy within your country as much as possible, so it doesn't go through customs, it's very rare that something is found, but it can happen)
-now you get to buy, depending on market, you either have cryptocurrency stored in their wallets (not recommend, you will lose it in an exit scam) or you can send it every order. When you send your delivery adress (or the one you want it to go to) encrypt the adress using the sellers public key. Make sure the adress is correct.
-wait for the product, make sure to extend the escrow until the product arrives, if you can't extend it anymore dispute the order, and a moderator will step in
-test the product, use it, and leave a review. PLEASE LEAVE A REVIEW, DNMs only work because of reviews.
Edit: Didn't imagine I would write over 15000 words. Oh well, it was fun. Hope it helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
No idea how long this will stay up, I might purge it in 7 days, or never.

Seed Words

If I have an electrum wallet on a destroyed cell phone and I don't have the seed words, am I screwed? Installed an electrum wallet on an ubuntu usb stick, and when I went to transfer the coins to a BitPay wallet. the electrum wallet wouldn't make the transfer because of missing script, or an update i couldn't get or something. So I created a wallet with the seed words in windows 10. I was able to get a QR code with the wallet in Windows 10 and transfer it to a wallet. I believe it is the electrum wallet I installed on my Android tablet which was destroyed the next day. How can I tell what wallet I transferred my bitcoin to? This is the transaction: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/51dd2b92fc511e8f0dcc1e07ce83442033339f0d555f7d62564e47ee0ccdde80. My tablet and phone were destroyed and I am having no luck finding the right seed words. The sending wallets are still fine on windows 10, but I am at a loss.

Did I transfer to another electrum wallet?

My understanding is that this transaction is from one of my electrum wallets to another. I could not send using my wallet on muy ubuntu usb stick because of an update issue. I meant to transfer my balance from the ubuntu wallet to a Windows electrum wallet. I am not having any luck. I have tried every password to log in to my Windows electrum wallet and can not. How can I retrieve my bitcoin? Is there a way to tell from the recipient address if it's an electrum wallet?

Crypto How To Will

Figured with these current fun times, I should write a will and add some crypto how to to it. I'd love to get thoughts on what I'm missing or doing wrong.

A few bitcoin-questions which keep me busy

Hi all,
I have a few basic questions about bitcoin.
Like most of you here, I‘m following the crypto-topic for a few years now. I never bought or owned any crypto, because it just too expensive (Bitcoin in particular). Recently I decided to invest some of my savings in 0.5 BTC (bought it for around 4150€). I got excited and started reading and researching even more about bitcoin. One of the basic ideas, which is clearly very popular, is the idea of decentralization. Another one is the cashless digital currency of the world etc. Eventually providing financial possibilities for people without any access to banks.
In my short experience from buying to storing the „coin“ a few thoughts and questions emerged, which I‘d like to share with you and hear your opinion on them.
1.The first thing, which was the most obvious: you still need a bank account, in order to buy any amount of bitcoin. All of the exchanges require you to connect a bank account, in order to buy crypto. Or you can of course exchange crypto for crypto, but then you need to buy the crypto in first place anyway.
How is this going to solve the problem of decentralizing? You still need a bank, which provides the original buyer with a bank account, right?
In other words, how should one imagine a world with bitcoins only? If they are limited only to 21 million, the rich-poor inequality could become even bigger and worse than now, because (theoretically) only one single person could own all of it.
2.Storing bitcoin.I have to admit, storing bitcoin is relatively easy, but one wrong move could make all your crypto disappear.
After I bought the 0.5 BTC, I wanted to store it securely. I read too many stories of people’s wallets being hacked and loosing all their crypto etc. So I decided to buy hardware wallet (Trezor One). The experience was not good. First, I pay transaction fees to move the asset from MY OWN software wallet to MY OWN hardware wallet. This is basically paying transaction fees to move your money from A to B, whereas A and B are in the same room. That worked OK, but then I decided to have some ETH as well. Transferred the ETH to Trezor and boom, my ETH was not visible. The amount of € was correct (Bitcoin + Eth), but only the Bitcoin was visible. Nevertheless I managed go see my ETH through Exodus wallet and transferred it back to my software-wallet, because I felt nervous not seeing it in the Trezor Wallet itself. More transaction fees.
Then I tried backing-up the hardware wallet. Everytime the application said „Application error: Interruption“ or something like that. I had to google to find out that probably the usb-cable was shitty. I bought Ledger Nano X and it‘s much better.
Long story short.
My thoughts on this: storing crypto securely is relatively simple, but I don’t see how this could be adopted by the whole world. Although my parents are good with IT stuff in general, I don’t know if securing bitcoins will be their thing. One wrong move and your coins could be gone. Additionally, a crypto wallet costs money and you can never be sure if the software-company behind it will exist forever to support wallet updates etc.
So, I have to admit: adoption of money is not that different. Having cash in your pocket is risky, because you can get robbed. Your bank account could be hacked. For people who get paid in checks - you have to take the check, go to the bank, stay in line and wait for your money. Takes time.
But there are laws, which protect you from losing money. In most european countries, you are insured for up to 100k EUR per bank account. So if your money gets stolen, the bank is obliged to give it back to you. And for stolen money in cash, there is police etc.
And yes, one more thing about the transaction fees: there are no transaction fees when I pay my rent for example.
3.Volatility:
today bitcoin is around 8600€, tomorrow it could be 400€, the day after tomorrow 20000k. If it is supposed to be a currency, it should be more stable, right? How can you be sure that you have the same amount of „money“ tomorrow?
4.Buying „bigger“ things.
Imagine buying a house. It costs 100 BTC. You meet the seller and then what? You transfer him 100 BTC, then wait for like 3 days until the full transaction is being processed and then? He receives the bitcoins and handles you the keys to the house. Is it yours? How can you prove that it‘s yours?
In this type of bigger deals, I don‘t mind when there is a third party like a lawyer or a bank, which approves the contract.
What are your thoughts on this?
5.I see quite often that bitcoin is being compared to gold.
And I agree, you can‘t do many things with gold either. You can‘t really „pay“ in gold in the supermarket or buy a house. Storing gold is even more difficult. Neither gold nor bitcoin solve any real problem, except that you could eventually make jewelry and nice churches from gold, which is - from point of view - not important.
And still here comes my general question at the end of this post:
What kind of problem does bitcoin solve? Why is there so much hype around it? Am I overseeing something? Maybe it‘s not about being a currency, but something else/something more?
I want to understand why or if it‘s worth holding my 0.5 BTC or rather sell it now, when the price is a bit higher and invest the revenue somewhere else.
Thanks for the comments and the discussion!
EDIT: I don't want to sparkle any battle between "bitcoin is good" and "bitcoin is bad". I just want to help myself and other readers understand the topic better and answer these basic and very fundamental questions.

I ruin people's lives for fun, this is my story.

Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Alex. I am 20 years old and clinically diagnosed with ASPD or Antisocial personality disorder. My diagnosis was given to me back in high school in my Junior year. It was pretty hard making friends or at least keeping them. You see when I try to make friends I usually only go into a relationship because of one thing; to get something in return. You could call it manipulating or deceiving people but, I don’t see it that way. I’ve had many therapists and physiatrists try to help me or figure out what’s wrong with me in the past but, I would just feed them the information they want to hear. Its pretty simple, give them all the shit they need to write down on their little piece of paper and it is music to their ears. Besides that, let us get to the story. Now you see the two key people back in high school were “Mike” and “Connor” and they were it. They had the girls, the popularity, the friends. They both were the biggest athletes in the entire school. This is important because I wanted that, but I couldn’t have it. Call it jealousy or whatever but, who wouldn’t want people to look up at you and have their names written in the daily paper.
High school was a bitch for me. I never had many friends or any real ones at least. I was known as the weird kid but, whatever right. Everyone says high school is tough for everyone. I believe it. Life gets back at people who deserve it though. Now Mike was the quarterback of the football team and he knew everyone and everyone knew him. I one day sent him a message on Snapchat and said: “Hey Mike, I know you don’t know me but, I think you’re a cool guy.” He then replied with “Who are you? Whatcha want dickhead?” I told him “Nothing much man, just thought we could be friends or something, we’re in the same Spanish class.” He said, “Oh, cool your that kid that sits in the back right?” I said, “Yeah, what you doing?” He then said, “Nothing much man, listen I got a party next weekend with a free crib if you tryna come.” I then told him I’d let him know. This was perfect because I knew exactly what I would do. I planned on seeing Connor there with his girlfriend Liz. That was important because I hated seeing the way Connor would treat her. He just used her for sex and shit and never really respected her. I knew how I would fix that though, and it would be at that party.
Well, I got to the party and there were at least 50 kids there. I saw a couple of familiar faces but couldn’t care at all. I was there for one thing and one thing only. To ruin their relationship. Call me a dick but, he was way worse than me. I once saw Liz come into school with a bruise on her face and knew it was from him. I finally saw them out back near the pool. I had a plan. I would text Connor’s phone from a different number making it look like it was some other chick texting him and Liz would be right there to see it. I went outside and he was drinking, probably already drunk. I could see them from across the pool and haven’t seen Mike yet. I was about to text him and then Mike came up and tapped me on my shoulder with two drinks in his hand. He said “Yooo, Alex you came!” I laughed awkwardly and said, “Yeah man, wouldn’t miss it.” He said, “You want a drink?” Gesturing the second cup to me. I took it and said “Thanks, man.” He said, “I’ll see you around, there’s more beer in the kitchen.” He walked away and now I pulled my phone out. I went on to the app which I would text him from and texted: “Hey Connor, I had a really good night last night with a winkie emoji.” I then sent it waiting for Liz to look over his shoulder. She did and read the message. They started to argue and Liz poured his beer all over his face. My plan was working just right. I then saw Liz walk inside in a rush. I pretended to bump into her and said: “Oh my fault didn’t see you there.” She laughed and said, “Oh my god, it’s you, Alex.” I then laughed as well and said, “You good?” She replied with, “No actually, I just found out Connor was cheating on me with some slut.” I said “Oh, that blows … you want a ride home?” She said, “No I’m good, I’ll just have Grace drive me home.” I preceded with, “You sure, I live super close to here anyways, I was just about to go home too.” She said, “Ok, sure that’s fine.” I then got in my car and we started to talk. I said, “So, how’d you find out?” She said, “Some bitch texted him saying that they slept together last night.” I then said, “Damn, what’s your address by the way?” She then said something that surprised me. “I can’t go home like this, my moms gonna know I’m drunk and I’ll never be able to go out again.” I said, “Well, what you wanna do then?” She said, “Um, I don’t know .. we should go to a park.” I said, “Oh ok, what park?” She gave me the name and we went there. I parked my car in the parking lot and said: “Whatcha tryna do now?” She then said, “Shut up stupid.” Hushing my lips for me. We made out that night and I dropped her back off and went home as well.
That week in school I got a snap from Connor. It was during lunch and I clicked on it. I saw the five words that couldn’t make me happier: “I know what you did.” I replied with, “What? What did I do now?” He said, “you hooked up with Liz.” I left him on open and went about my day. I then saw him in the parking lot after school near my car. He came up to me and screamed in my face: “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST STEAL MY GIRL WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING?” I laughed right in his face and said, “Well, she isn’t with you anymore now, is she?” He then yelled: “Well, you think you’re just going to go about your day or something?” I said laughing, “Yeah, I was planning on going to Liz’s house after school.” He then jumped on top of me pinning me to the ground, socking me right in the jaw multiple times. I tried throwing some back but, he had my hands pinned to my side. He got up and said, “Fuck with her again and you won’t be getting up.” I got up with my nose bleeding and got into my car and went home.
That was 2 years ago and boy have I got my revenge. Let me start by saying I have no regrets about what I did. Everything I had done was for my satisfaction. You see I don’t care who’s life I ruin … as long as I get something out of it. Connor graduated high school with not much going for him. He had a job at a car dealership as a mechanic or something like that and never went to college. I never went to college so I won’t judge but, I had other plans after high school. I wanted to ruin Connor’s life, and I never stopped until I completed that process. It started with pretty small things like when I tried ruining his relationship back in high school. He was always a dick and who better to fuck with then a worthless piece of shit like Connor. I messaged him a couple of months ago saying: “Hey old friend … remember me?” He replied with “Yeah, the kid I beat the shit out of … I remember you.” I knew he would say something like this so, I sent him a picture of myself and his sister I photoshopped to look as if we were together. He replied with, “What the hell are you doing with my sister … she doesn’t date weird fucks like you.” I replied with, “Oh well looks like her type changed?” I was just sitting on my computer laughing my ass off from how gullible this kid was. He then messaged his sister Claire, which I thought he would do. “Are you dating a kid named Alex?” I had hacked into her phone which was pretty easy because I sent her a phishing email that looked like a women’s clothing company that I knew she had an interest in because of her Facebook. She clicked it and it then downloaded a key logger onto her phone which would send anything that was on her phone to me directly. I override it and replied as her saying: “Haha, yeah … me and him just started talking.” Everything that was being sent right now would delete as soon as I exited the software. I then texted him saying, “Claire is one beautiful woman, kind of reminds me of Liz…” He then said, “You know you’re a real dick you know ….” I said, “Haha the one who beat the shit out of their girlfriend in highschool right … I’m the dick.” I then said, “Hey how’s life going for you ... washing people’s cars ….” He replied with “Fuck you man … go do something with your time.” I ended the conversation with “Ok bud, I’ll let you know how she is in bed…” Now, this was just the first thing I would do to fuck with Connor’s life. A couple google searches for his name and I now had his address … He was still living with his parents at the time. I then went ahead and waited for him to get done work to order a couple of pizzas to his house and make him pay for them. A couple I mean by ordering 20 pizzas all with extra toppings. That was definitely a pricy delivery. A total of $300 if you want to round up. I called in and said I would pay in cash and my name was Connor; I gave the lady on the phone his address and it was as easy as that. You might be asking why I care so much to fuck with someone’s life … It’s easy, I get joy out of it. You see these were the baby steps to ruin someone’s life.
My next attempt would be going to a personal level. Connor had a laptop at home and I went ahead and hacked it. It was easy knowing how stupid he was. He would fall for anything. So I sent him an email that led him to a link that would automatically download a fake porn movie. He would run the download and I would then have access to everything on his computer. Everything. I had every username and password of every website he used including bank accounts, emails, videogames, documents, social media, and much more. I also could see what he was doing by his webcam which he never turned off. He also had a new girlfriend at the time and her name was Jessica or Jess for short. I planned on ruining their relationship too. One night I logged into one of his bank accounts to see what his balance was … It was $1,243.50. So I went ahead and requested a withdrawal to a website that would transfer it into bitcoin. I requested $500 to see if it would work without causing any attention. The transfer went through and I now had $500 in bitcoin. I went ahead and logged out and disconnected my VPN. I also knew Connors social because he had everything saved on his laptop like his passport, birth certificate, and social security. The next morning I drove over to his house and waiting for him to leave for the morning. I watched him get into his car from a street over and pull out of his driveway. He then sped off to the local bank, I proceeded to follow. I guess he found out $500 had been withdrawn from his account. After he was done in the bank he drove to Dunkin donuts. I then thought of an idea as he was inside. I got out of my car in the same parking lot and went over to his car and took my pocket knife out. I flipped it open and sliced his back tire open. I quickly got back in my car which was parked on the other side of the parking lot and waited for him to come out. He was pissed. I could tell because he just stood there and looked around trying to find the person who had done it. I sat in my car looking at him just snickering to myself. I was getting so much joy from watching him in anger. He took his phone out and called someone. He got back in his car and just sat there. I then saw another car pull in the parking lot about 15 minutes later. It was Jess. She pulled in and parked next to Connor’s car. He got out and sat in the front seat of Jessica’s car. I could care less now to watch so I went out of the back entrance and went back home.
I went onto my computer when I got home to open the software to view Connor’s laptop. I had a feeling that the bank would have told him to look for spyware on his computer when he got home so I made sure to get on before he could. I went ahead and deleted every traceable script that was linking the laptop to the RAT. I had scripted another code to perform as a startup manager which looked like windows software. It wouldn’t be picked up by antivirus so I just copied the RAT onto my new script and loaded onto his laptop remotely. I then went ahead and logged back onto his bank account and it was frozen. I wasn’t surprised. I thought they would have done something like this. I had a backup plan though. I went ahead and logged into his iCloud with his username and password which was conveniently saved from google. I searched for “Wheres my iPhone” and found where Connor was. I saw that he was at some apartment complex not far from me so I left my house and went there. It was dark out at this point and he was inside Jessica’s apartment. I parked my car and got out to search for his car. I took my jacket with me and wrapped it around my hand. I found his shitty old Honda just sitting there with a popped tire still. I took my knife which had a glass breaker and put it right against his window. It then cracked and I hit that window as hard as I could with my hand wrapped in my jacket. It broke and glass was everywhere. His car alarm was going off at this point so I had to do what I did next very fast. I looked inside his glove compartment and found his registration and insurance papers. I stuffed them in my pockets and looked through the center console. I found his wallet and a couple of condoms. I took his wallet and got the hell out of there. I sped out of the apartment complex and went back home fast, hoping no cops would see me.
I got back inside my house and looked inside Connor’s wallet. It had about $40 in cash and a little baggie of weed. There were credit cards in there as well. I had a perfect idea. I went onto a proxy and searched for the same bitcoin website I had recently been on. I went ahead and bought approximately $4,500 worth in bitcoin from every single credit card Connor had. I knew that this would destroy his credit score. I knew he wouldn’t be able to get an apartment with bad credit but, he was still living with his mom anyways. I now had extra resources to destroy Connor’s life. I knew that Connor wouldn’t be able to fix that broken window and most definitely wouldn’t be able to drive to work now because all of his papers to legally drive were now in my possession including his driver’s license. He had no money. I needed to move on with my next step to remove Jess from the equation.
I need to find a flaw in their relationship or something to exploit. I went ahead and completed my research on Jessica. Before I go on, I need to mention that Connor had now pulled the police into this. The bank and the police were now going to try and find out who had been messing with him. They won’t be able to find a link between the two. I know this for sure. Although knowing the police are involved it just made this game more fun. I like the attention that I am causing. Let me get back to what I had found on Jessica. What do you know? She was fucking with another dude. How do I know this you might ask? Well, I went ahead and looked around her Facebook and Instagram followers looking at mostly male followers. I ran a program that looked through her direct messages and found an account of another guy in the area. It looks like they went to the same high school. I looked through the messages and they were all flirts back and forth and she finally told him to message her on Snapchat. I, unfortunately, do not have access at this moment to look into her Snapchat messages but this is enough for now. I went ahead and took some screenshots of the messages and spoofed a text message to her saying “Looks like you got a little problem here don’t you?” Attaching the screenshots. She replied saying, “Who are you??? What do you want??” I simply replied back with “Oh nothing much, just pick who you want to keep … Connor is a dick anyway.” She replied, “You have no business in this … how did you even get into my messages?” I then said, “Don’t worry about it Jess, just tell Connor you guys aren’t working out anymore… and you won’t hear from me again.” A simple blackmail is all it took.
Guess he wasn’t really worth it. Never knew how to treat a woman right anyways. Now that Jess was out of the equation I could go ahead and proceed with ruining his life. I went ahead and called into his work. A lady picked up “Hello, [Name of car dealership] this is Lisa speaking, How may I help you?” I went ahead and said, “Ah yes, I recently had my car worked on here and I would like to make a complaint against one of your workers…” She replied with “Ok sir, and do you know the name of the employee?” I said, “Yes I do, Connor [last name]. I saw a scratch on the back of my car which looked like a key or something pulled the paint off. I saw this as soon as I got home from getting my car maintained on.” She said, “Ok sir, I will go ahead and mark down your complaint and we will handle it accordingly… if you would like you could come back so we can get more info from you and we could have someone take a look at the damage?’ I said, “No that won’t be necessary after what you guys have already done, thanks.” I then hung up the phone. I know that this will most definitely get him fired.
I called him a couple of days after this with a masked voice from software that changed my voice. He picked up and I said, “How’s life been? … Shitty let me guess.” He replied with “Can I ask who the fuck is calling? And why do you care how my life’s been?” I said “Maybe this would help … you missing that $4,500? … Lifes a bitch isn’t it.” He said, “You’re going to be arrested for stealing that money .. the police are looking into it.” I said “Oh, Connor I already know that … I’m three steps ahead of them already. I mean I guess Jess doesn’t want to date poor guys huh?” He said, “How the hell do you even know me … what do you want from me?” I said, “Connor go outside there’s a package for you and maybe a couple of your answers will be in there.” I hung up. Before calling him I made sure that a package with nothing except a USB was in there. It was meant to be plugged in and it would be erased within 1 hour of opening the contents … the contents were a txt file with the title of README.txt. It wasn’t a virus or anything it was just a document meant to be read. Once opened it would have a paragraph saying:
Hello Connor, the man that you were just speaking with knows everything about you and will not hurt you. You are playing the game of life. Its simple. You are a pawn in my game. I pick and choose what you do and how you do it. You may not see it but, everything that has been going on in your life the last couple of months has been of my choosing. I’ve been in the process of taking little bits of your life away. One by one. You see it all started back in high school when I took your little girlfriend away. I made her think you cheated on her. Easy. My next step would be to take away all of your money. Poof just like magic. All gone. Your credit is down the drain. The second step was to take away your transportation. No way to drive without any money. The broken window doesn’t help either. Or maybe no driver’s license. I then took your love life away. Jessica is no longer in your life. Well, maybe you might just go back to work to make more money …. Wrong you see. You no longer have a job. Don’t bother going in tomorrow because there was a report of you “damaging” a customer’s car. You may be reading this pretty upset because you have no way of fighting back. Well, that’s where I come in. I will give you a chance. In order to stop playing my game, I will send you an address and all you have to do is show up. Sounds easy? I hope so, for your own sake.
P.S: If you bring the police … the game ends differently. Not in your favor.
I was almost finished with Connor. I needed to do one more thing before I send him the address. I was never going to let him have an easy way out, no. I planned to make him go to a park that was at least an hour out of the direction. This would be a diversion away from his house so I could carry out my plan. I had recently bought with “Connors” money from the $4,500 that I converted into bitcoin approximately 4 kilos of crack cocaine. It would ship domestically so it wouldn’t be searched by customs. I then planned on having it shipped to a nearby drop zone which was an abandoned factory outside of town. I then would take this and put it into a backpack without putting my fingerprints on it. I then also had a USB that would boot up into the dark web which had all of Connors’s personal info like it was his. I also made the password his most commonly used password for the USB. This would link directly back to Connors’s local IP address which I had set onto the USB. I also remotely bought the drugs with Connors’s laptop. My plan here would be to send in an anonymous tip from a payphone to the local police station that there was a large package of crack cocaine shipped to Connors’s address. I also planted the baggie of weed which had Connors fingerprints on them in the back porch of his house. This would give the police probable cause to search the house for drugs. I would assume that they would have already brought a warrant but, just in case I had done that for precautionary reasons. This all would happen tonight. This is when I would successfully ruin Connor’s life. I would send him to prison for years. He would be sentenced with multiple felonies of drug possession and intent to sell. The large quantity that he would be possessing would give him no parol either.
I had the vendor on the dark web pack baggies of grams pre-bagged and one large quantity as well. This would give him the charge of intent to sell as well. The investigation would come down to that he purchased them from his laptop with his credit cards. Nothing would be traced back to me. I made sure of this because I had corrupted all of my hard drives back at home by microwaving them. There was no personal connection to Connor with me. So, I would not be looked into. I was just a kid from his high school with a thousand other students. I had no connection to anyone in his family either. I went ahead and sent him the name of the park through a random phone number I generated and said, “Connor you have 90 minutes to be here, or the game continues.” I was outside his house a street over waiting for him to leave. I saw him leave which was around 12:30 am and everyone was asleep in his house. I set a timer on my phone for an hour which was my time to plant everything and get out before Connor was home. I then went to his back porch and planted the baggie of weed at his bedroom window. He was stupid enough to leave his window open and I opened it and went inside his room. I had gloves on at this point before I left my car. I dropped the backpack inside his closet and plugged in the USB that I had prepared into his laptop which was sitting on his desk. I then left through his window locking it before stepping out. I made sure the weed was sitting nicely on the outside of his window. I then walked back to my car. I checked the timer on my phone and it was at 35 minutes. I knew he would be at the park before the timer was up. I went to a closed parking lot that I scoped out before planting the evidence which had a payphone. I called in and said, “392 [Street] there is a large number of drugs which is owned by Connor [last name]. I am sending this tip in and would like to keep it anonymous for my safety.” I hung up and left the parking lot immediately. On my way back home I got a text from Connor replying with “I’m here … what do you want me to do to end this stupid game?” I replied with “It easy … take your phone and throw it into the lake … You will receive your money back after this last task is done.” He said, “How do I know you’re going to follow through on your end?” I said, “If you don’t do it, you don’t get your money …you are a player of my game remember, you follow my rules and you can win.” I then sent another message saying, “Tomorrow check the balance of your bank, and all the money will be back where it rightfully belongs. Goodbye now.” This would be the last step in covering up everything I had messaged him. He is just playing every card I told him without even knowing. I then called the phone 5 minutes later to see if it connected me through. I called and it said, “The phone number you’ve dialed is no longer in service … please call back later.” My plan was now complete and Connor will be arrested within the hour. I got home and went to sleep without a problem. I woke up the next morning and turned the news on. The headline was “Breaking News: Man in local [county] was arrested last night for drug trafficking.” This was music to my ears hearing the lady speak about the details of the arrest and hearing her say Connor’s name. She said it like he was some criminal and boy did I love that. I looked up the details of the arrest on google and clicked on the first link. [Connor ****** arrested last night for drug traffiking] I saw his mug shot and it said under it that he could be sentenced up to 25 years and up to $20,000 in fines for intent to sell crack cocaine. This was the end of Connor’s free life. He was now a convicted felon and would never have his original life back. My game was now completed and he was the pawn to complete it.

Choosing The Best Multi-Currency Wallet For Crypto in 2020

Crypto differs from fiat in terms of storage. It is saved not in some kind of virtual bank, but directly in the blockchain. The coins, information on the distribution of digital assets between users, transaction history – all this data is stored by the chain. Such data cannot be changed or erased in any way. And without a crypto wallet, you cannot manage your assets.

Let’s have a look at different types of crypto wallets.

A cryptocurrency wallet stores your “private” and “public” keys used to send and receive various crypto tokens. The interface and design of the programs help users to get all the necessary information about their digital savings.
There are two types of wallets:

How do cryptocurrency wallets work?

Cryptocurrency wallets are not designed to actually store digital assets; instead, they provide the tools necessary to interact with the blockchain network. The wallet includes a public address, which is an identifier in the form of a set of letters and numbers. This address is a kind of location on the blockchain where you can send coins. You can share your public address with another user to receive funds, but you should never show your private key to anyone.
A private key provides access to your cryptocurrencies, regardless of which wallet you use. Thus, even if your computer or smartphone was compromised, you can still access your funds from any other device, provided that you have the appropriate private key (or seed phrase).

Types of wallets

Web wallet

This type of wallet is suitable for beginners, since it does not require the purchase of devices, software installation, or downloading the blockchain. It is enough for the user to register on the site. Web wallets are simple and convenient to use, they do not take up space on the HDD and are constantly synchronized with the blockchain network, even when your computer is offline.
Cryptopay enables customers to transfer money directly between their Cryptopay wallet and SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) bank account, store their funds safely in a multi-coin portfolio, protected by two-factor authentication to increase security.
Coinbase is a trading service that many retailers use to receive digital currencies from sales. Private keys are stored on the server, and client funds are stored on a cold wallet. You can enable two-factor authentication and install the smartphone app.

Desktop wallet

The local wallet is installed on the hard drive and loaded with the operating system. Such wallets are divided into “thick” (full-node clients) and “thin” (light-node clients). Thick ones can take up to hundreds of gigabytes of hard drive space. Thin local wallet is actually a program that makes requests to the blockchain through a trusted site.
Bitcoin Core is a Bitcoin wallet created by the Bitcoin Foundation. If you want to get a truly secure place for your digital assets, choose this thick desktop wallet.
Exodus is a universal thin crypto wallet. It supports 100+ altcoins and has a built-in exchange service. Also, Exodus can interact with the Trezor Crypto Hardware Wallet.

Mobile phone and browser wallets

Mobile wallets are available through special applications. You can use them for shopping in real stores where crypto is accepted – just like ApplePay.
Benefits of Mobile Wallets:
Disadvantages of mobile wallets:
Coinomi is a multi-currency application with two integrated exchange services (Shapeshift and Changelly). The wallet supports 100+ virtual coins, the keys are stored exclusively in the application.
Browser wallet is an extension for Chrome and Opera browsers. It is very easy to use: you just enter seed phrases and get access to the savings.
The Jaxx extension for Chrome from the team of developers of the browser wallet KryptoKit, supports not only Bitcoin, but Ethereum as well.

Hardware wallet

This is the most reliable option for saving virtual assets. They look like ordinary USB flash drives. The user inserts a USB, logs on a wallet program by entering a password and thus gets access to the funds. All operations are performed not in the system, but directly on the flash drive itself, which eliminates extraneous access to data.
Trezor wallet supports most of the top coins, it can be synchronized with the MyEtherWallet online wallet, as well as Chrome and Firefox browsers to get access to crypto funds.
Ledger Nano S is miniature, safe, and easy to use and has several levels of protection. Asset management is performed through the Ledger Manager utility.

Paper wallet

A paper wallet is a piece of paper that usually has QR codes that can be quickly scanned to get the address to a crypto account. The main advantage of services like BitAddress and Bitcoin Paper Wallet is that the keys are actually stored offline, which makes them immune to hacker attacks. The main drawback, however, is that the paper wallet can be stolen or lost.

Which wallet is the safest?

An offline crypto wallet is the most reliable one. You can install a local wallet on a PC that is not connected to the Internet and store your digital assets on it, but this is not very convenient if you need to quickly complete a transaction.

Conclusion

The choice depends on how you plan to use your tokens. Small amounts of crypto can be stored on thin local or Internet wallets, and for long-term storage of large amounts, it is better to get thick or hardware wallets. In any case, remember to strictly observe all security measures.

Whatcha want dickhead?” I told him “Nothing much man, just thought we could be friends or something, we’re in the same Spanish class.” He said, “Oh, cool your that kid that sits in the back right?” I said, “Yeah, what are you doing?” He then said, “Nothing much man, listen I got a party next weekend with a free crib if you tryna come.” I then told him I’d let him know.
Chapter 2

Hey guys can I please have some one answer this question?

I’ve bought some bitcoin a couple times to purchase some items online which only accepted bitcoin. This last time I bought bitcoin I noticed the currency had been sky rocketing in value so I decided to purchase a surplus of about $1000 to become an investor. I’m using a blockchain wallet which is just an app on my phone. Now all this aside, I’ve realised I need to become a little bit more savvy, and I thought I was going pretty well until I tried logging into my blockchain account on my desktop browser and then inside my phones browser, both times to find that the bitcoin wallet was showing empty even though it shows I’m holding bitcoin in my app wallet. Is there something I’m missing here? I read something on blockchains FAQs about how even if they were to get hacked or compromised, I would still maintain access to and also security of my bitcoin in my wallet, I guess I’m so used to having data such as my bank balance or cloud files be so easily transferable between devices and browsers just simply by logging into the same account that this is all new to me, it raises a couple of practical concerns like whether I should be using a physical wallet like a USB drive etc. am I right in assuming this is what a decentralised system is supposed to look like/function like? Since normally data on my other accounts in life would be stored in a central server owned by e.g. the bank or say Google for my drive files, that means the data is secured by them. But bitcoin is different right? The complete record of my bitcoin ownership is code stored on my device? I know you guys absolutely love to spill your 2 cents worth on here so I would love some answers/information to some of these questions that will help me build a further familiarity and/or some practical tips! Thanks in advance

06-11 16:34 - 'A few basic bitcoin-questions that keep me busy' (self.Bitcoin) by /u/Sweet-Zookeepergame removed from /r/Bitcoin within 68-78min

'''
Hi all,
I have a few basic questions about bitcoin.
2.Storing bitcoin. I have to admit, storing bitcoin is relatively easy, but one wrong move could make all your crypto disappear.

There is a plot in The Big Bang Theory: In 2010, Shelton first dug out Bitcoin and invited three other friends to play the mining game, but he was kicked out of the founding team. The time came in 2017, Bitcoin broke through $ 5,000. The trio found the mining computer of the year and planned how to spend the huge sum of money, but found that the folder was empty. It turned out that Shelton had stolen the computer to retaliate the trio, and downloaded the file to a USB flash disk. But in the past seven years, the USB flash disk has long disappeared.

https://preview.redd.it/blnbonrh32x41.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8aea207fb961f1f7175d9498b0de74fa064e0d4a
The story comes from life. Although some drama elements are added to the plot of the TV series, the case of “Token lost” is common in real life.
In this article, let’s take a look at “the predecessors who have lost tokens”!
Count the cases of coin loss caused by personal reasons, learn from their experience, and never let “history” repeat.

Type 1: Private key on the “cloud”

A user has always remembered the promotion of not taking screenshots of the private key and used another mobile phone to take the wallet private key and upload it to the cloud disk. This move gave criminals the opportunity to find his cloud disk password with the help of various third-party libraries, thus successfully obtaining his private key and stealing digital assets.
There is also a user who keeps his private key in the mailbox of a website, thinking it is foolproof. Unexpectedly, three years later, the website turned off the mailbox function, his mailbox could no longer be logged in, and the private key could not be found. He can only know that he has digital assets, but he cannot trade.
Therefore, you must pay attention to the choice of equipment when backing up the private key. It is best to copy it by hand, distinguish between upper and lower case, back up two copies, and save it in a safe place.

Type 2: Acquaintance crime

Once a user was backing up his wallet, a friend happened to be by his side, but he didn’t pay much attention. After that, the friend obtained his private key by some means and transferred the tokens. Fortunately, this friend was located through the investigation and the digital assets were restored.
Cases of acquaintance crimes have often heard in recent years, and some even stolen by their relatives. However, in the known case of recovering stolen assets, there is a high probability that stolen by acquaintances. Therefore, if your digital assets are stolen, you can give priority to the possibility of “acquaintance crime”. In addition, when backing up the private key, pay attention to whether the surrounding is safe, and ensure that there are no people and cameras around.

Type 3: Missing one letter makes it difficult to find assets

Let’s talk about the actual cases recently handled by NeoLine customer service. These dozens of users have encountered the same problem: the private key cannot be imported because it is not case sensitive.
Such cases often happen in life. When users first started copying, they were very confident in their writing and did not do a second check. Moreover, they were able to distinguish between the upper and lower case at the beginning and were successfully imported.
After one or two years, the user took out the copied private key and imported it, but failed. Only then did they realize that some letters were indeed doubtful. Common: K and V are not case sensitive; q and 9 are indistinguishable, and I and 1 are unclear.
If you encounter this type, users who understand the code can write a script and run thousands of combinations, and you can find it out.
However, some users found the private key and found out that they didn’t know when the writing fainted. This situation is too bad, the probability of finding out is almost zero.
Therefore, we emphasize that when copying the private key, you must be careful, pay attention to the order, the writing is clear, pay special attention to case-sensitivity, and copy the copy to a safe place. Don’t let carelessness ruin your digital assets.

Type 4: The person opposite is not the right person

I have seen such a case in a group chat. When a user was transferring funds, many people in the group were sending addresses, so he copied others’ addresses and transferred tokens. Fortunately, users in the group are familiar. After the negotiation, the currency was transferred back, which did not cause the “token loss” consequences.

What Is Bitcoin Private Key: Beginner’s Guide

What Is Bitcoin Private Key: Beginner’s Guide
Most of the people in this sub probably already know what the Bitcoin private key is and how it works, but there are many newcomers who do not fully understand all the technical aspects of it. I hope you guys will find it useful.

Bitcoin Private Keys: The Basics

Let’s start with some main principles.
  • A private key is functionally similar to a password to your email account. Unlike your email address, you never share it.
  • You need your private key to be able to receive the crypto someone sends you and to have access to your funds.
  • The BTC network does not store your private keys, they are generated and stored by the wallet software. There are different types of wallets.
IMPORTANT: The private key concept does not apply exclusively to Bitcoin. Other cryptocurrencies use it too.
Now, let’s see how a private key looks and works.

Bitcoin Private Key Definition

Bitcoin private key is an alphanumeric piece of code. It includes letters and numbers, just like your public address.
However, while a public address is like your plastic card number, a private key is like your CVC. You know, those secret three digits on the back of a card?
A private address is created in a random manner when you get a cryptocurrency wallet. The possibility of creating two identical private keys is almost zero, due to the sophisticated encryption algorithm, we apply for the purpose.
In the BTC network, a private key contains 256 symbols, as we obtain it using the SHA256 encryption algorithm. This function always returns 256 symbols, no matter the input.

Bitcoin private key in various formats, including WIF.

Wallet Import Format (WIF)

Using such a long string of code is inconvenient, so a private key is often presented in WIF (Wallet Import Format). It’s a shortened version that includes only 51 characters (numbers from 0 to 9 and letters in the range of A-F) and begins with 5.
Here is a Bitcoin private key example in WIF:
5Kb8kLf9zgWQnogidDA76MzPL6TsZZY36hWXMssSzNydYXYB9KF
WIF has a few advantages over a full BTC private key version. As we have said, it’s shorter and more convenient to use. Also, it contains special pieces of code that serve to check the address for typos and correct them automatically.
WIF associates with only one private key and can be easily converted back into it, using an established algorithm.

Encrypting Private Keys

If a key looks like WIF but starts with 6, it is an encrypted version of a private key. People encrypt keys to ensure an extra layer of protection. To obtain such a string of code, we apply another algorithm. To decode (decrypt) the key we need to enter the password that we set when we were encrypting it.

How Bitcoin Private Key Works

You probably know Bitcoin as a digital payment system. To explain how it works, it would be better to compare it to a web-messenger, with massages transferring value. These ‘value messages’ are BTC transactions.
And what role a private key plays in sending these financial messages?
Let’s take a look at a real-life example.

https://preview.redd.it/fgtn8h63veu41.png?width=1261&format=png&auto=webp&s=9855f9aba70ebe7ca1f02b32c160ae78b2b42400

Using Private And Public Keys For a Transaction

Imagine you are sending 1 BTC to your friend Bill. You create a transaction and indicate yourself as the sender and Bill as the receiver of this amount. Then, you will broadcast the transaction to make the Bitcoin network aware of it.
  1. You start by choosing a private key. Using a special encryption algorithm, you derive a public key from it. You send this public key to Bill.
  2. You create a message for Bill and sign it with your digital signature. To obtain it, you pass your private key through a special encryption algorithm and attach the resulting code to the message. Every signature is unique, and you can use the same private address to produce an infinite number of them.
  3. Bill receives your message, public key, and signature and passes it through a signature algorithm. If it’s the message you sent, the algorithm returns ok.
Why we need a digital signature in the first place? There are three reasons. First, it tells the recipient that the message is from the sender he knows. Second, a digital signature makes it impossible for the sender to deny he sent the message. Third, it confirms that no one has altered the message in transit.
Unlike a traditional signature, a digital one cannot be forged. To produce it, you have to possess a secret private key.
https://preview.redd.it/k8n0vcg4veu41.png?width=624&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ab6c0bc25c0a638c4d3bfdbf86056f5462aa7d0

Why Keeping Your Private Key Secret Is Important

As we have mentioned, anyone in possession of your private key can steal your funds anytime.
If your wicked colleague Alice gets your private key (because you carelessly left your paper wallet on your desk), she can use it to create a digital signature. She can then use that signature to sign a transaction that will look like yours for the network. For instance, Alice can send all your crypto to another address. You will never be able to cancel this transaction and you are highly unlikely to know that she made it.
For this reason, you should be very careful with your private keys. Never send it to anyone using a messenger, or an email client, or a social media channel. Don’t share photographs of your private key. Never store a private key in a Google Doc file.
Please note that some desktop wallet apps store your private key in a standard directory on your hard drive. This place is a honeypot for hackers who know you are a cryptocurrency user. That’s why it’s extremely important to have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on your device.
https://preview.redd.it/bg2zd50aveu41.png?width=723&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e692f5c73c7c68ea854342b7fbeaf6aaa62f71f
Also, you may encrypt this wallet file to make it immune to malware. Many wallet apps provide this option. You will have to set a password to decrypt the private key, and the hacker will have to break this password to do it. If the password is strong, it will be a really difficult and time-consuming task.

Where To Store Private Keys: Mobile, Desktop And Hardware Wallets

As we have mentioned, the Bitcoin network does not store these keys. Instead, wallet services do it.

Mobile Wallets

Some of them allow you to keep and protect your private key, others do it automatically, applying various safety measures like 2FA or encryption. Note that nobody is responsible for it, your bitcoins will be gone if the service is hacked.

Desktop Wallets

Desktop wallets may be a good option. They provide a BTC public and private keys in the format of a file that you can download and import. You can protect this file with a strong password and safely store it on a hard drive. Don’t forget about safe storage for this drive, too. For instance, use a bank vault for this purpose.

Cold (Hardware) Wallets

Hardware wallets are the safest ones. They are small USB devices designed to store your funds and private keys offline, away from anyone who could steal them. For this very reason, hardware (or cold) wallets are impossible to hack. If you accidentally lose, damage or destroy such a device, you can recover your BTC and private keys using a backup phrase. The best-selling models of hardware wallets are Tresor and Ledger Nano S, supporting several popular coins.

Paper Wallets

These wallets are sheets of paper with BTC private keys and public address printed on them. Paper wallets look pretty basic and not very innovational, but it’s a safe way to store your BTC-related sensitive data. The main reason is that they are not connected to the Internet and thus are unreachable for malware attacks. This format is also immune to many mishaps that can affect electronic devices. To create a paper wallet you use a special web service like WalletGenerator.

Lost USB with 1k coins - help

Okay, I am looking for a little help here and it’s mainly because I don’t fully understand Bitcoin, but would like to...
Everyone has heard of someone that’s lost a USB drive with xyz bitcoins on it; but how does this actually become lost (besides physically misplacing it) bitcoin I gather is stored on the decentralized ledger and when this person received 1k coins someone transferred it to a public key (his wallet) and it was placed in wallet with a private key. When he lost the USB I assume that means he lost the private key? And if they all were sent to the USB offline and this public address was created offline, in theory if this wallet never connected to the decentralized ledger couldn’t someone randomly generate a new public address to match the ledger and just claim ownership of the 1k bitcoins? For instance if my usb randomly generated this public address, it received these coins, never connected to the decentralized ledger, lost private key, someone else’s wallet randomly generates or purposefully generates same public address, would the decentralized ledger now believe this new wallet is the owner?

To obtain such a string of code, we apply another algorithm. To decode (decrypt) the key we need to enter the password that we set when we were encrypting it.

How Bitcoin Private Key Works

You probably know Bitcoin as a digital payment system. To explain how it works, it would be better to compare it to a web-messenger, with massages transferring value. These ‘value messages’ are BTC transactions.
And what role a private key plays in sending these financial messages?
Let’s take a look at a real-life example.
https://preview.redd.it/lt1gwme8seu41.png?width=1261&format=png&auto=webp&s=87137c6ad2566affef82a6513090022f7dbb931e

That’s why it’s extremely important to have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on your device.
https://preview.redd.it/187j0ucmseu41.png?width=723&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9bccdd66ffabde2e623846c7e95930d5e62a625
Also, you may encrypt this wallet file to make it immune to malware.

Cannot use TAILS on MacOS. Necessary for small purchase?

UPDATE: TAILS FAILS never worked for me. I don't think it works for Catalina. I found a simpler way to do transaction though: Buy BTC from local bitcoin ATM. One I used only asks for SMS #. You can use your cell to google temp SMS numbers. Tons of sites out there, none ask for registration. Get code sent to your burner #. Then use cash to purchase BTC. Depending on market you can probably send directly to marketplace wallet. Then you're good to go. Absolutely no paper trail then, 100% anonymous. Much easier than all this tumbling / Wasabi / TAILS bullshit. I hope this helps someone. Took me 3 solid days to figure this out. Once I knew what I was doing transaction took maybe an hour start to finish to complete.
Want to buy 1/2 oz of shrooms. That's it.
I've been trying to set up purchase for 2 days and fucking non-STOP issues. This is by far the most frustrating/time-consuming/complicated things I've ever had to do - this includes helping my mom understand how to play a YouTube video over the phone or helping her install apps on the phone while on the phone.
I finally jumped through all the hoops of getting TAILS. First it wouldn't flash to the drive because of some weird Catalina issue, workaround requires you sudo into app and then flash. I did that.
Then when I tried booting in it wouldn't work because of some obscure Security settings I had to turn off.
Now I FINALLY boot up TAILS and the keyboard & mouse don't work. If I plug in a USB mouse it works, but then I get a black screen and FAILS doesn't load. I Google around and find this is a common problem and apparently no real (/quick) fix exists.
If FAILS wasn't enough of a headache, it seems there's no viable BTC vendor online. Every single one I visit asks for lengthy KYC runarounds, then wants me to wait days to verify my info -- and even if I do wait it just tells me it rejects my info because my state "isn't served".
I'm just fucking fed up at this point. Jesus H Fucking Christ, buying a gun isn't even this hard.
I have a local BTC ATM. Apparently it does ask for ID. Can I buy my BTC there, transfer to desktop Electrum, then send to my market wallet? Will I really get in trouble?
I understand my ID info is attached to the Bitcoin ledger, but who is really monitoring that? LE would have to bust my marketplace and then unencrypt my home address to bust me, right? And if package is intercepted, I'd have plausible deniability unless they went through the same process (busting entire market & getting my info).
I am 100% all for cloak and dagger shit cause I care about safety, but it just seems nigh-impossible to do this. I've been trying to do this sale for 2 straight days now. I'm not trying to move keys or sell myself so is it really worth it/necessary?
Thank you so much. Just a guy trying to have a creative escape.

Weekly news review (August 10-16)

A leading bank technology provider in Latin America is partnering with cryptocurrency exchange Bitex to facilitate cross-border payments over the bitcoin blockchain.
Bantotal is a core banking service provider based in Uruguay that services over 60 different financial institutions across 14 different countries. According to a Bantotal spokesperson, an estimated 20 million people use Bantotal’s money management services.
The partnership means that Bantotal clients will be able to access Bitex services in a marketplace of other traditional financial services that Bantotal offers through its BDevelopers program.
Calling it a “quantum leap” forward for local banks in Latin America, Beaudroit said that average fees associated with cross-border payments are up to five times cheaper using Bitex than international wire transfers.

An official at China’s central bank has said the institution is nearing the launch of its digital currency.
Since Facebook announced details of its Libra cryptocurrency project in mid June, China has viewed development of its digital coin with new urgency.
Early in July, the former governor of the PBoC Zhou Xiaochuan said that Libra poses a threat to payments systems and national currencies.
As previously reported, the large number of patents filed by the PBoC relating to its digital currency paint a picture of how it might work. They suggest the work addresses a technology that issues a digital currency, as well as provides a wallet that stores and transacts the asset in an “end-to-end” fashion.

New Zealand’s tax office, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), has made it legal to receive salaries in cryptocurrency, and be taxed accordingly.
In its August bulletin, the agency published a new ruling under the Income Tax Act (in relation to section RD 3) that states that an employee can be paid salaries in crypto assets as long as the payments are for services performed under an employment contract, are for a fixed amount and form a regular part of the employee’s remuneration.
As far as tax goes, salaries paid in crypto assets will be treated as PAYE (pay as you earn) income payments. These are deducted by the employer and passed onto the tax department.
The new ruling – signed on June 27 by the agency’s director of public rulings, Susan Price – will apply for three years from Sept. 1, 2019.

An online survey by banking giant ING finds that Austrians are the most skeptical of Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies in general. The poll, including respondents from 15 countries, shows that Bitcoin-positivity is also weakening in other countries, according to Der Standard, Aug. 14.
Austrians are generally conservative on investments, but on cryptocurrency they are very skeptical, with only 13% seeing digital currencies in a positive light.
Attitudes towards cryptocurrency worsened since last year’s survey. This year, 17% of Austrians think that cryptocurrency is the future of digital payments compared to 20% last year. Additionally, only 14% believe it is a significant form of investment in contrast to 17% last year.
Just 5% of Austrians would consider having their salaries paid in Bitcoin.
According to the survey, Austrians know more than most nations about cryptocurrencies, but prefer to avoid risk and volatility as much as possible.

In its latest research, security researchers at cybersecurity firm CheckPoint demonstrated how easy it is for hackers to remotely infect a digital DSLR camera with ransomware and hold private photos and videos hostage until victims pay a ransom.
Security researcher Eyal Itkin discovered several security vulnerabilities in the firmware of Canon cameras that can be exploited over both USB and WiFi, allowing attackers to compromise and take over the camera and its features.
According to a security advisory released by Canon, the reported security flaws affect Canon EOS-series digital SLR and mirrorless cameras, PowerShot SX740 HS, PowerShot SX70 HS, and PowerShot G5X Mark II.
